Where I stay while in Ohio’s Amish Country
I’m often asked where I stay while researching my books in Amish Country, and I’d like to answer that here in case others may be planning a visit to Ohio. Although there are many fine B&Bs in Holmes County, I stay at Simple Pleasures in Winesburg, Ohio. The beautiful rooms, the gourmet breakfast, and the delightful innkeepers make it hard to go home! The proprietor is a wealth of info on Old Order Amish customs. Although she was raised in a Menonnite household, the B&B is operated English-style with full comfort and convenience. But if you’re looking for a more authentic Amish experience, the Coblentz (non-electric) Cottage is available down the lane. The cottage has a bedroom, kitchen, full bath and can accommodate up to 4 guests. A full hot breakfast will be served at Simple Pleasures–a short walk or drive away. call toll free 1-877-722-3772

My favorite place to stay in Ohio Amish country is the Charm Countryview Inn. I have been a repeat visitor (almost family now!) since they opened…about 20 years ago!

I recently stayed at the Inn at the Amish Door. It was a one night stay included An Amish Sampler platter for 2, it had roast beef, chicken, ham, mashed potatoes, veg, stuffing, salad bar, bread and butter. in the morning it was a ‘Continental breakfast that included waffles, fresh fruit, freshly baked donuts, sweet rolls, cereal, juices, coffee—way more than anyone could possible eat. The rooms were very nice and even had free internet and cable tv. They also have an indoor pool—very nice to relax in after a day shopping. The package I had also included a Taste of Amish gift basket. It was very nice. Next time I want to stay overnight will try a B&B.

One of the best B&Bs in Ohio Amish country is Fields of Home, a beautiful log house with several great rooms! My favorite is the Wicker Room which has two queen size beds and a little fireplace. Ruth and Mervin are the owners and are wonderful hosts. Do check them out on the web!
