Featured Fiction Giveaway: A Plain Man

A Plain Man

A Plain Man by Mary Ellis (April 2014)

About the Book:

Bestselling author Mary Ellis offers an engaging new standalone Amish romance about a prodigal seeking to find his way home.

Though Caleb Beachy lived in the Englisch world for some years, he is a Plain man at heart. When he decides to return to the Amish lifestyle, he moves back home and goes to work for his father. Soon these two strong-willed men find themselves at odds. Caleb discovers there’s more to embracing his faith and reconnecting with the community than merely driving a horse and buggy and giving up Levis.

Josie Yoder was just a girl when he left. All grown up now, she gives Caleb hope for the future. She soothes his frayed temper and is determined to remind him that while his faith may have wavered, God never left his side. Caleb is tempted to return Josie’s feelings, but the choices he made while away are a heavy burden on his conscience. Will past mistakes end up destroying their fledgling romance? Or will she be able to break through the wall around his heart?

A Plain Man is more than just a sweet romance centered in Amish beliefs. It’s the ever-fresh story of a wounded heart finding joy, health, and healing in God’s infinite grace.

  1. Home , to me means warmth , shelter , comfort and so much more. My home is my own castle. Privacy from the outside world. My own space. A roof over my head . Shelter from the storms of life. A welcome place to come home to.
I always say that it is nice to go away on vacation for a week or two, but it’s oh so nice to get back home again.
I’m thankful for my home. We raised our daughter here and now that we are retired . It’s nice not having to go out every day to work. We just veg out at home a lot. Our house is big for 2 senior citizens living alone with 2 cats , we should down size but we’ve been here for 31 years and leaving here would be very hard to do. We are rooted here I guess.
    Blessings

Home to me is Sullivan, Ohio. I just moved here a few weeks ago with my husband Jim, and we have never been happier. Our Amish neighbors have made us feel “right at home” ever since we moved in. Actually, even before we moved in. We like our new house, but we LOVE our new “home” in an amazing place that feels exactly like what we were looking for.

Home is many things, for me it is where my soul is centered. It is where I feel safety and security surrounded by loved ones. It is not always a physical building but a spiritual warmth where I feel complete. We have moved several times in my adult life and home is what I make of it at the time I am there. For me it is love, trust, security, and spiritual comfort.

  9. Home is a place for love, joy, peace, worship, hardships, security and comfort. Home is not a structure which can be torn down but a place that holds your heart.

I have read hundreds of Amish books over the past few years and it was not until then that I truly appreciated “home”.

In today’s society, there is so much strife and things that pull us apart from the true family, your true home. So much technology, crime, doing your own thing so often. By reading so many of the Amish novels, I have learned what the true family, true home is like and things to let go of that is not as important as one’s family, a place where home should be. If more people would follow the Amish lead as to family and home life the world would be a much better place.

But I am also the child of a king……Jesus and that is the biggest family that I belong to, what a huge blessing!

Since I just returned from a Road Scholar program studying the shared heritage of Amish and Mennonites, I’m even more interested in books about Amish and Mennonite communities.

  144. Home is where my heart is, and belongs. Home is knowing my husband will be there for me every day. Home is the smell of fresh baked cookies, pies, cakes, oh I’m not too particular, anything baking makes me happy. Home is cozying up in a chair by the fire reading a good Mary Ellis romance novel. Home is getting through a work day and walking through the door with that sigh of relief.

  145. Home is where I live, laugh, and love. I plan to visit Holmes County tomorrow and am going to look on the map to see if visiting Shreve and Fredericksburg will be doable. I love to read books that mention places where I have been.

  154. Home to me is where I’m comfortable, it doesn’t have to be a particular house, but instead a place where I feel loved, where I feel comfortable.

I feel at home when I return to my childhood home, hearing the crunch of gravel beneath the tires and the sound of crickets chirping in the night while fireflies flutter by. Home is when I return to MN and drive down my long, quiet driveway with the scent of pines in the air.

There are many places where home can be!

Thanks for the chance to win this book!

  161. Home is where my story begins. Tonight it might be inside a dumpster if I I don’t get to eat. Tomorrow night it could be a tall box like for a washing machine to fend off the approaching rain. Many people can happily define it similarly. But when you don’t have those things, home every night changes. It keeps you away from abuse, physical and verbal. Every once in awhile people throw away books which represents Christmas presents to me. Will Christmas come early this year?

  181. Home for me is the mountains of North Carolina. Even though I have lived all over the country, this is where I finally feel comfortable…as if my family has been here for generations. It is the one place that I am truly accepted for who I am, the place that when I have been away, my heart is overjoyed to see the mountains again. It’s where I can go to our little library and find a new Amish novel to read!
